Former School of Alcoutim
These buildings were built in the early second quarter of the 20th century and served as schools until the mid-1970s. Each building housed a classroom, with girls on one side and boys on the other. The municipality promoted the renovation and adaptation of the buildings to house shops and services on the ground floor and a main hall and administrative services on the first floor.
The two buildings are practically identical. They have a rectangular floor plan measuring approximately 12m x 8m and a tiled roof with four slopes.
The façades are on stone masonry; the upper floor and roof are timber structures.
Gravidade first carried out a seismic vulnerability analysis of the buildings and concluded that they did not meet structural safety standards. It subsequently developed a project to reinforce and adapt the buildings to the new functional program.
The façade walls were reinforced with reinforced concrete layer on the inside.
