Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a methodology applied in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry that is based on sharing information between the various stakeholders and during the various phases of a building’s life cycle. Data sharing is done through a three-dimensional digital model, accessible through software, which allows the virtual manipulation of that same building or infrastructure. The digital model contains data on the geometry, properties and attributes of the elements that compose it. The BIM methodology leads to significant gains in quality, time and cost during the various phases of a project’s life cycle, from design to operation, including construction. Controlling reliable construction information allows for better decision-making processes and risk reduction. BIM is a methodology implemented in several countries, with established regulations and legally mandatory use.
