Campo Maior Middle and High School
The Campo Maior Middle and High School project, in Portalegre district, intended to implement a function and space reorganization, as well as an expansion program. The total gross area is 6.900m2.
The scope of the project included several studies: demolition works, earth retaining structures, foundation and structures.
Regarding the existing buildings, the intervention consisted in their rehabilitation and strengthening.
The expansion consists in a new building built in the continuity of the existing ones, to the East side, called “Nova Ala”. It is a “bridge type” building with rectangular shape, 65.0 long and 16.0 wide and a deployment area of around 1.000m2. It has two stories (ground floor and first floor) and additionally, an underground area for water tanks and technical rooms.
This new building structure is in reinforced concrete: walls, columns and beam slabs. The wide span interior façade is a compodeployment steel-concrete structure.
The foundation is direct by means of footings over cyclopean concrete with a variable thickness, depending on the relevant substrates occurrence depth.
